During the summer, we continued assessing soil health at AELL Tatry in Važec and Poprad using the interesting Soil Your Undies test. The purpose of this test is to provide a visually appealing and engaging assessment of soil biological activity and the rate of organic matter decomposition. At the end of May, we buried cotton underwear at three locations on both innovative and control plots. The underwear remained in the soil for eight weeks. After excavation, we visually evaluated the percentage of organic matter decomposition, in this case, the decomposition of the cotton fabric itself.
Počas leta sme pokračovali v hodnotení zdravia pôdy v AELL Tatry vo Važci aj v Poprade zaujímavým pôdnym testom Soil your undies (Zakop svoje spodky). Účelom tohto testu je poskytnúť vizuálne atraktívne a pútavé hodnotenie biologickej aktivity pôdy a rýchlosti rozkladu organickej hmoty. Koncom mája sme na troch miestach na inovatívnych aj kontrolných parcelách zakopali do pôdy bavlnené spodky, tieto boli ponechané v pôde po dobu 8 týždňov. Po ich vykopaní sme vizuálne hodnotili percento rozkladu organickej hmoty, v tomto prípade bavlnenej látky.
On 18 June 2026, a Farmers’ Day was held at the Kriváň Biofarm in Važec. As part of the exhibition of the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the live agro‑ecological laboratory AELL Tatry was also presented. The displayed poster contained basic information about AELL as well as the agro‑ecological and scientific activities carried out within AELL.
Dňa 18.6.2026 sa na Biofarme Kriváň vo Važci konal Farmársky deň. V rámci expozície Ústavu krajinnej ekológie SAV bolo odprezentované aj živé agro-ekologické laboratórium AELL Tatry. Vystavený poster obsahoval základné informácie o AELL a tiež agro-ekologické a vedecké aktivity, ktoré sa v rámci AELL realizujú.
Since 2025, regular zoological and botanical monitoring has been carried out on selected agricultural plots within the AELL Tatry area.
Od roku 2025 na vybraných poľnohospodárskych plochách v AELL Tatry prebieha pravidelný zoologický a botanický monitoring.
To ensure the implementation of research activities and systematic data collection on the AELL agricultural sites, the following infrastructure has been installed to date: a meteorological station at the farm in Važec, soil‑moisture dataloggers, and camera traps.
Pre potreby zabezpečenia výskumu a zberu dát na poľnohospodárskych plochách AELL sa doposiaľ nainštalovali túto infraštruktúru: meteostanicu na farme vo Važci, datalogery na meranie vlhkosti pôdy a fotopasce.
Na inovatívnej poľnohospodárskej ploche AELL Tatry boli inštalované hmyzie hotely a T platformy pre pristávanie dravcov. Okrem očakávaného zvýšenia biodiverzity územia by toto opatrenie malo prispieť aj k posilneniu biologickej ochrany proti škodcom na poľnohospodárskych plodinách.
On the innovative agricultural site AELL Tatry, insect hotels and T‑perches for raptors have been installed. In addition to the expected increase in local biodiversity, this measure should also contribute to strengthening biological pest control in agricultural crops.
